Competing on the local and national circuit level, we take debating seriously. Debate is a crucial skill for success in life, and we are dedicated to developing our expertise. Ravenwood Debate’s rich history of competitive success makes it one of the top-ranked debate organizations in the nation.
However, the Ravenwood debate team isn’t only about victory. We prioritize learning and personal growth, endeavoring to be fair and respectful in our debates, and hold the opinions and perspectives of others in high regard. Debating is a way to hone our skills and learn from others and gain a deeper understanding of the world around us.
RHS Debate is composed of approximately 40 debaters from all academic disciplines and year groups. We welcome anyone in the Ravenwood community with an interest in competitive debate. We are committed to being a community of equal access, free of discrimination, prejudice, or bias, and upholding the Ravenwood Standard.
Ravenwood Debate is student-run and operated, with team captains planning the schedule of competitions, conducting introductory training, and running the program. Our captains work with students to improve skills and prepare for competitions by reviewing preparation, observing practice debates, and leading lectures and seminars on various relevant topics.
Debate Team members range from people who were national debate champions to people who did not know what debate was until they joined the team. Previous debate experience is optional, and we pride ourselves in our history of training members to become world-class debaters no matter their prior background.
